Sobriety & me

There was a time in my life when alcohol felt like the answer to everything. It started innocently enough — weekend drinks, celebrations, social nights that blurred into laughter and late conversations. But slowly, quietly, alcohol crept into the spaces where I felt anxious, overwhelmed, lonely, exhausted, or not enough. What began as partying became drinking during the week, drinking to cope, drinking to numb feelings I didn’t know how to hold. I used alcohol to soften my edges, boost my confidence, silence my mind, and escape myself for a little while. Yet every time I drank, something inside me moved further away from peace.

Six years ago, I made the decision to stop drinking, and I haven’t had a drink since. Sobriety didn’t magically erase life’s difficulties, but it gave me something alcohol never could — clarity, self-respect, healing, and genuine connection. Over time, I replaced alcohol with things that nourished me instead of depleted me: therapy, support, meditation, creativity, nature, meaningful work, honest relationships, and learning how to sit with my feelings instead of running from them. Everything I once searched for in alcohol slowly began to grow naturally within me. My relationships deepened, my work became more aligned, my nervous system softened, and my life became fuller in ways I never imagined possible.

I also understand how difficult it can be to choose sobriety in a world where drinking is so normalised. When friends, partners, workplaces, and social circles revolve around alcohol, stepping away from it can feel isolating at first. But I’ve learned that sobriety is not about deprivation — it’s about freedom. It’s about no longer needing to medicate pain, suppress emotions, or abandon yourself to get through life. My journey is deeply personal, but it’s also why I feel so passionate about supporting others who want to live free from toxic coping patterns and reconnect with who they truly are beneath them.
